Position Title: Technical Writer
Location: Maple Grove, MN

 

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for developing and executing a companywide strategy for creation and distribution of the user documentation required to support all company products and equipment. Will also be ultimately responsible for the creation and distribution of end-user operating manuals, maintenance instructions and other technical documents. All documents must be developed in a quality, consistent, accurate and professional manner and in accordance with company standards. This documentation will be used in the operation, training, maintenance, and repair of products. In addition, the person in this position will also be supervising the documentation specialist role at TimeSavers.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English or other related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing preferred, but not required
  • 4+ years of related experience
  • Experience with Microsoft products, Adobe FrameMaker, PDF Professional, Photoshop and drawing viewers
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks Composer is preferred, but not required

 

Position Accountabilities:

  • Lead efforts to develop best-in-class processes for development of product technical documentation, primarily machine owner’s manuals, for all company products across multiple business units.
  • Lead in the establishment of company-wide standards for product/machine manuals.
  • Lead efforts to adapt new technologies and software to provide state-of-the-art product documentation solutions for our customers.
  • Leadership position in the creation of operation manuals for new machines. Provide work direction to Documentation Specialists in the creation of product manuals.
  • Assist in the development of machine maintenance procedures, product alerts, service bulletins, preventative maintenance schedules, and engineering release announcements.
  • Writes and edits technical documents including product manuals and related instructional materials.
  • Meets with engineers, programmers, service technicians, production employees, and other company personnel to gather information about specific products or processes which is used to develop machine instruction manuals.
  • Research company products as necessary to fully understand product function and operation.
  • Assess the audience for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjust tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure complete and correct understanding by the reader.
  • Works with Documentation Specialists to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding all instructional materials.
  • Solicit feedback from internal and external customers to improve technical documents.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.
